The Falcom Heroines, right by your side!
I'm a fan of Falcom. I bought a lot of their soundtracks, and I played all of their games that were localized (many thanks to XSEED and Konami!) in the English language. I didn't even knew this existed and when I saw this set, I just had to buy it.
I've included some photos to help to give you a visual medium for this product. I took it with my phone so I apologize if it's not the best quality.
For starters, in order to commemorate Falcom's 30th anniversary, the company asked what figures the fan base wanted, and the three winners were Estelle Bright, Feena, and Renne.
On to the figures themselves. They are tiny, hence Nendoroid Petite. By size, they are about the size of a regular Nendoroid in size and scale. However, they still have some of the trappings of their bigger cousins, namely movable limbs, articulated heads and joints, and swappable heads and hair. These did not come with any extra hands and legs however. Also, the legs don't have joints so you can't bend or tilt them. What you see is what you get. Each heroine comes with their own accessory that's appropriate for them. Estelle has her bo, Renne with her scythe, and Feena with her wings and... bath towel. The set also comes with three stands for each girl. Also, a simple manual is included.
Unlike some the Nendoroid Petites I've seen, these come fully assembled. Honestly, the figures aren't the best I've seen. They aren't horrible, no. I've seen better ones, that's all. My set has some visible mold lines and paint transfers in certain areas. However, I don't mind because the figures themselves are really small, and having to work with these kind of figures must be tough. Also, since they're small, you kind of have to look closely anyway. I'll give my thoughts on each heroine.
Estelle Bright (Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky)
Ahhh, the lovable, hot-headed, ditzy tomboy lead of TitS. She was the easiest to pose despite having the most parts. Her twin tails have articulation and can be removed. They pop off easily but they can be popped on easily as well. I kind of like the pose. It's her victory pose from the first game sans the winking face.
Renne (Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky)
The enigmatic Renee. I'm not too familiar with her because I haven't played Trails in the Sky Second Chapter- which isn't due for Summer 2015- so I can't appreciate her as much compared to Estelle and Feena. She does appear as an NPC in the first game but it's a passing thing. This one is probably the second hardest to pose. For one, she has a bow on her skirt. However, the peg for the bow is on the lower skirt on an open section. What this means is that if you turn her waist to a certain degree, the frills on her dress will block the hole. Not only that, her arms are somewhat loose and fall off easily compared to the other two. Plus, the ends of her hair hits her upper back and her shoulders so you can't have her tilt on certain degrees. Her hair obstructs the peg on her back for the stand so trying to get her back into the stand if she ever falls off means you have to pull out the hair piece, put the peg into the hole, then put the piece back. Her peg slot was the hardest one to work with. Add in the fact that my figurine has a loose left arm and obstructive hair made posing her somewhat frustrating. I also like the grin on her face, as if saying, "Hehehe. You want to pose me? Good luck..."
Feena (Ys Origin, Ys 1 & 2 Chronicles)
The blue haired angel that captured a fervent youth's heart. The lovely Feena is probably my favorite. Her white and blue contrast makes her stick out the most, in my opinion and since she lacks any type of little details, it makes her look "bright". Nothing special on her, just a white dress, a golden locket, and her mop of blue hair. Feena's smile is cute and it's slightly off center too so you can also view it as a smirk. She has three peg holes, the back of her hair, one on her right armpit, and the other on her waist. Her dress hugs her legs somewhat tightly and gives the figurine some curves. It's a nice way to give her plain dress some character and also adds a bit of sexiness to it. My only real complaint about this figure aside from her accessories is that the peg on her armpit is really obvious. Now for the angel parts. My lord. Trying to put it on her was the lowest point for me. The main problem is the towel. You have to fit it just right or else it'll obstruct her hair. Not only that, I've heard of some cases where the pegs don't fit into the holes! There's no easy way to do it. Just use the image on the manual as a guideline and you should be able to figure things out. I recommend you remove her arms and bangs. Speaking of her bangs, the sides of it are fairly soft so you can push and pull them out of the way.
The set come with three stands. They're circular disks with three different stems with sockets on the ends. This is cool because you can rotate them and adjust the figure's position without having to remove them from the stand. The shortest one is for Estelle. The second longest is for Renne. The extra length is needed because the bow somewhat obstructs the stem. The longest one is for Feena. Why the longest? Because Feena is best girl! No, it's because of her peg hole for the stand is on her hair instead of her back. It may take some work to put the pegs into the holes. I recommend using a piece of cloth to cushion your thumb because they can get pretty stubborn.
*Inhale* There you have it! I know it's long winded review but that's just how I am with figures. Yes, you will encounter some problems but it's not insurmountable. The Falcom Set is a cute, bite-sized collection that just about any Falcom fan or collector can appreciate. The characters that the players have come to know and grow, right in you room, or maybe a three-in-one figurine set that covers the anime convention of the cutie, the tomboy, and the elegant. Either way, everybody wins.
PS Not only does Feena have the biggest stand, she's also the only one that can stand unsupported because some of her hair touches the ground. Feena is truly the best girl!
