Everyone: these are super quiet. If you want to quiet down your PC, replace the stock fans with these
I bought one of these to replace the radiator fan that came with my 980ti Hybrid. That and the stock case fans were the cause of most of the noise in my PC. Now, all I hear are the pumps from the two closed loop systems in there. I really can't hear this fan under normal conditions. However, if I'm not doing anything I can hear a clicky noise coming from the fan motor, but its so low I don't notice it when I'm doing something. The temps are still good, too. After an hour of BF4 with gpu load at 99% it never got over 60C. In fact it was sitting at 55C, which is pretty much the same as what the stock fan was doing. But, I can't emphasize this enough: these fans are quiet. The included colored rings are welcome, too. You can have blue, red, white, and black if you remove it. My only complaints are the clicky fan motor (almost inaudible) and the grey rubber used to dampen vibrations. Black would be ideal. My NZXT fans, which are also quiet and reasonably priced, have black rubber vibration dampers, so it can be done.
Overall, great fan. When I want to do a custom water cooling loop in the distant future I'll be using these fans. They look good, cool well, and run quiet. I mean, one 120mm low rpm version is sufficient to cool a 980ti at maximum load, what more could I ask for? Would buy again and highly recommend.
I do need to get some sleeved cables for the PCI power cables, and then my rig will be ready for the camera
At 120mm it fit the H60 radiator just fine (no doubt this fan will fit other Corsair CPU water coolers too). I even managed to fit all 4 of the long screws that are supplied with the H60 into this fan where as with the stock H60 fan I could only manage to fit 2 as there seemed to be a slight misalignment on fan. The SP120 runs at 1,450 rpm, which should be enough to cool the Corsair H60. The stock fan speed of 2,500 rpm was over kill IMO. In fact I haven't really noticed much of a difference in CPU temp using the SP120 over the stock H60 fan.
The H60 requires a High Static Pressure fan/s in able to cool the liquid passing through the radiator efficiently. I'm happy to say that the Corsair SP120 is a high static pressure fan, which makes it an ideal replacement for the stock fan that comes with the H60. It's so good in fact that I might get another one and use the two on the H60 radiator. This fan also comes with rubber corners to minimize vibration, which is an added feature to cut down on even more noise. Also comes with 3 different coloured, easy to change pop out rings so that you can match the colour of the fans to the interior of your case (like if you have a blue'ish coloured motherboard you use the blue rings etc) which mine is.
Yet again, another impressive piece of hardware from Corsair, I really can't fault any of their gear to date (apart from the loud stock fan on the H60). I'm planning on getting a few of these fans as case fans, that's how good they are.
My PC has become a lot quieter compared to it was before. With the old Apevia fan, which had high cfm, it was very audible. SP120 quiet fan keeps my CPU temps exactly the same as my other fan, with a lot less noise.
Apevia fan specs:
Type: Case Fan
RPM: 1700±10% RPM
Air Flow: 63.85 CFM
Noise Level: 29.67 dBA
I really only bought for the green LED because I have a green (low-profile) color theme going. The only thing that glows was that one fan so it stood out nicely. So I decided to trade that out for a quieter fan, because that Apevia fan was loud.
After installation, I couldn't be happier. My gaming PC no longer sounds like an air conditioner. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a good fan for your CPU cooler, and you want that low-profile quiet 'n cool.
Cheers.
Update: I'm still using the Corsair Air Series SP120 Quiet Edition. Temps still check out fan, running low rpm, lower cfm than the fan I was using before, and the temps are exactly the same still, at around 30*C idle, and it never goes above 55*C under full load.
While my PC is idle, I barely can hear my PC.. I wouldn't even be able to tell if it was on if it weren't for the red power indicator lights on my PC tower. Keep in mind, I have extremely sensitive hearing. Jokingly, my friends call me a wolf, haha.
I'm sure you could do a push/pull configuration (2 corsair sp120 quiet fans)on a hsf similar to a Hyper 212 plus or evo and it will still be quiet compared to other generic fans. Keep in mind, brands like Corsair Air series and Cougar have rubberized design to reduce vibration and noise (db). If you use a generic fan, it'll vibrate and create higher decibel level.
Some background: I built a mini-ITX PC a while ago with an EGVA 1070 Hybrid in a Fractal Design Define Nano S case. The Hybrid has an AIO radiator and a stock 120mm fan that's loud as balls. Now, I appreciate the stock fan's hustle because it kept the graphics core cool at 41C in Furmark, but the noise was driving me crazy. Maybe it's because I sit three feet away from the case and I game without headphones on, but I decided that enough was enough. I was gonna get a quiet aftermarket fan, even if it meant I had to sacrifice my temps a little bit.
I bought the SP120 Quiet Edition because it had pretty sweet reviews on Amazon. I swapped it into my Hybrid, and the results were about what I expected. My Furmark load temps shot up to 55C, but the fan was whisper quiet. Great. The bad news was that the fan clicked INCESSANTLY. This was a weird issue because it only occurred when the fan was connected to the 1070 Hybrid 3-pin header. There were no problems when it hooked up with the motherboard's fan header. There seemed to be some compatibility issue between the 1070 Hybrid and the SP120, but I wasn't gonna waste my time trying to get those two components to play well with one another. I returned the fan.
The next fan I bought was the Cougar Vortex CF-V12HB. This turned out to be a great decision because A) Vortex didn't click and B) the Vortex turned out to be superior to the SP120 Quiet Edition in every way. The Vortex is quieter (17.7dB vs 23dB), stronger (60.4 CFM at 1.73mm H2O vs 37.85 CFM at 1.29mm H2O) and cheaper (pricing may depend on your region and time of purchase, but the Vortex was 4 dollars cheaper for me). My Vortex gave me Furmark load temps of 52C -a small but significant improvement over the SP120- and it was quieter to boot.
At the end of the day, the SP120 Quiet Edition is just a really average fan that's outdone by competitors. If you're looking for a low RPM, 3-pin, static pressure fan, you can try the Cougar Vortex CF-V12HB or find something else that might work even better for your particular rig and radiator setup. In any case, you can do so much better than the SP120 QE.
This fan in a slilent room is noticable and I instantly noticed a difference in noise when installed. It's an air noise but spinning at 1450rpm it is expected, yet still more quiet than other fans running at the same rpm. However at 7v this fan is inaudible and still has enough static pressure for radiator or heatsink use. I would recommend running on 7v at all times but i'm a silent freak. Great product overall.
